Lori’s Best of the Bayou Update-11/5/12

I hope everyone is enjoying Fall and all the wonderful festivals the season brings in South Louisiana! I’ll begin this month’s report with good news – the news that Best of the Bayou plans to once again kick off the fall festival season on the bayou! The 2nd Annual BOB Fest will take place on Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29, 2013.  Please mark your calendars for the last weekend in September!

The fest will remain in downtown Houma, yet plans are already underway to enhance the festival experience. Festival organizers, such as our Logistics Committee, in conjunction with local merchants, parish leaders and music producers, are eagerly taking on the task of coordinating changes to the locations of food and arts & craft tents, as well as the all-important stages. Their goal is to have an even flow of food and activities while people stroll from one stage to another. Festival-goers can also anticipate a variety of “street performers” to help make the stroll even more interesting.

If you wish to be part of this big celebration in September, you can contact me at the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce office at 985-876-5600 or via email at info@bestofthebayou.org. You may also personally contact Festival Chairman, Billy Foster or Vice-Chair, Paul Labat, for more information.

I’m proud to say that as of this update, Best of the Bayou has reached 1000 “Likes” on Facebook (or as my father likes to say, “Spacebook”). Hopefully, most of you are on Facebook by now and have liked us, too!  1000 likes is quite an accomplishment since Best of the Bayou only started its online presence in May. In a time where online, social media and real-time updates are major sources of news (even if it is about your mom n’ dem), BOB heavily relied on Facebook and other social media to quickly spread festival news this past year and will continue to do so in the future. You can also find us on Twitter, WordPress, YouTube, and of course, you can always visit our website, www.bestofthebayou.org.

We hope that you can volunteer, as we strive to make Houma’s newest festival bigger and better! If you cannot help by volunteering your time, you can always help by being a Friend of the Festival. Donations start at $50. Best of the Bayou is also starting to seek corporate sponsorships for 2013 in order to help sustain the festival, which is free to the public. All donations or sponsorships are tax-deductible and go directly to the Best of the Bayou Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit organization.
